Birmingham came alive with an atmosphere and vibe never seen before as the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games rolled into town, bringing with it global TV coverage, thousands of extra visitors to the city and a new icon… the giant mechanical bull from the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony!
Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr was at the centre of the action. The stadium was refurbished for the event and hosted all athletics competitions and the Games’ opening and closing ceremonies.
The Birmingham 2022 merchandise store opened in the Bullring, along with a Commonwealth Games Megastore in Centenary Square, and online store.
Touch of Ginger was invited by the organising committee to provide specialist gifting solutions for the Games. Working along side the brand, corporate and volunteer teams, we created and delivered a broad collection of unique gifts that captured the uniqueness of the event in Birmingham.
Volunteers
13,000 volunteers became the heartbeat of the event and to help deliver the biggest sporting and cultural event the region has ever seen. In their vivid orange and grey outfits, ‘the Commonwealth Collective’ were the stars of the show helping to create a memorable event.
Volunteer Gifting
As a thank you from Birmingham, each volunteer was gifted a commemorative competition size and weight aluminium relay baton presented in an attractive cardboard tube. The decorative baton features a bold geometric design inspired by the iconic Birmingham City Library. A certificate of authentication inside the baton bears a good will message from Birmingham.
In addition to the baton, Touch of Ginger also created special edition identification pin badges worn by the volunteers during the Games, along with a pair of coasters in the colours of the Games.
